How to Start Forex Position Trading

Forex position trading strategy is a simple technique to increase your position size without increasing your risk. This trading strategy is particularly effective with mini lots and with averaging into a position also it works equally efficiently for standard lots.

For example you may buy one mini-lot of EUR/USD at 1.3100 and set the stop loss at 1.2980. It pose a risk of $20. When the price rises, you may buy a second mini-lot at say, 1.3120 and set the stop at 1.3100 with raising the stop of the first lot to 1.3100. Now you have two lots with overall risk still at $20.

If you find the price to be still rising, you buy a third lot at 1.3140 and set the stop at 1.3120 along with rising the stop of the first two lots also to 1.3120. This would ensure that even in the worst case the whole trade is at break even. Now, with further price rise, you buy a fourth lot at say 1.3160 setting the stop at 1.3140.

Accordingly, you raise the stop on the first three lots at 1.3140, which will protect your profit. Finally, you buy the fifth lot, set the stops as before and ensure a profit of $100. Throughout the process your risks remain at a constant of $20. So in this forex position trading strategy, you limit your risk exposure and at the same time gain handsome profits.

You can use a similar forex position trading method to average your trades. Weekly 3-bar pattern is a strategy which is ideal for forex position trading and which is very effective on longer time frames like the daily or the weekly chart. This forex position trading strategy lets you stay with the trend for a longer period of time.

Ideally, any day trading should be done with minimum lot size position. With forex position trading strategy, the initial profit is less but with trailing stop it can maximize the profit. A good position of day trading can be changed with forex position trading into a long-term profit option.

With forex position trading your exposure to the market is less and therefore no need to monitor the market continuously. The hedging order protects the position and limits your risk in the trading. With forex position trading, you can earn profit with minimal loss that boosts your trading confidence.

You can find many trusted money management software to calculate tradable profit/loss patterns along with optimizing trade sizes for supporting your forex position trading strategy. These software are designed to calculate trade position sizes according to various money management models with several successful positions sizing formula.

The forex position trading strategy may use formulas based on fixed percent risk, float percent units, fixed units, etc. The software are easy to use and help in calculating the most optimal position size for forex position trading strategy. You may also have many online position sizing techniques and position size calculators, which can supplement your forex trading strategy.

Forex Toolbar - Why it Was Created and How Does it Help With Forex Trading?

A few months ago the FX-BAR FREE Forex toolbar was launched and is already becoming very popular. What started as a search for better connection to the Forex market is now something that some Forex traders can not do without. I want to share with you the concept of the Forex toolbar, why it was created, and how exactly does it help with Forex trading.

The reason why I've created the Forex toolbar in the first place was for convenience. As a Forex trader, I found myself looking for useful Forex related sites, jumping from one to the other, and trying to stay connected to the Forex market at all times. It's not easy. And as every Forex trader knows, the Forex market is FAST and BRUTAL, and you can't afford to skip a beat.

Another thing I found to be very stressful was trading alone. If you are not a veteran Forex trader and you don't have enough confidence, that alone can result in great losses. I personally think that 90% of Forex trading is psychological. If you have support and confidence you can make the right decision with a clear mindset and make most of your trades (no one is perfect…) to be successful ones.

So there are two aspects that can really assist any Forex trader and make Forex trading much easier - Better connection to the Forex market and to Forex traders.

So how does the Forex toolbar help with these aspects?

In the toolbar you can find live Forex quotes and Forex news that allow you to stay connected to the Forex market whenever you have a browser, any browser, open. You don't have to "live" in front of a Forex website any more in order to stay connected. The links to various Forex related sites such as Forex brokers, Forex Forums, Forex charts, etc, give you easy access to the Forex market.

Regarding the second aspect, I've added a chat and a RSS message board to the toolbar. The chat is for live discussions regarding Forex. It is very helpful to chat, before or while trading, with other Forex traders. The RSS message board is for posting questions or ideas and address all the forex traders who downloaded the toolbar.

There are some other enhancements on the Forex toolbar that are not necessarily Forex related but can be very useful such as a Google search tab and an email notifier.

The essential resources that the Forex toolbar provides really simplify Forex trading! I hope everyone will enjoy the Forex toolbar and will find it very useful.

Understanding Forex Statistics

Once you become somewhat familiar with how the forex market works, and you understand to a point what is involved in trading on the Foreign Exchange Market, you would want to start to gauge market trends in order to profit from your business ventures on the open market.

The name of the game is statistics, and the first rule is that you must be aware there is no such thing as a sure thing on the forex market. While you can never be 100% sure at any given time of the next move that will be made on the market as a whole, being able to read statistics and interpret them will place you ahead of the pack in regards to "guessing" what will happen next.

Forex trading is a lot like gambling. If you can keep track of the cards that have already been played, you are more informed, statistically, regarding what is likely to be dealt next, meaning you can place a bet with greater insight than someone who has no clue what has already been played. With the forex market, if you have information as to what has already occurred over the past few days, months, or even years, you are again placed in a better position to more logically conclude what will happen next. You simply learn the pattern and follow it to the end, reaping the financial rewards.

Charts And Chartists

Wait, did you think you were going to have to research and map out the market's past all by yourself? Of course not! There are people who get paid to do that sort of work. They monitor the market hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly so that they can provide big-time traders with the same knowledge mentioned before. The more a trading company knows about the market, the more money they can make.

The best part of this is that you have access to the same information as these VIP clients. Chartists, who are essentially market analysts that publish their findings in easy to read charts, produce what is referred to as a candlestick charts. These charts are basically a combination of a line graph and a bar graph that show the trend of various stocks, indexes, or other interests over a specified period of time. Therefore, you can easily determine if the currency is on an uptrend or if it is taking a downturn, when the last major change occurred, and how long it is predicted that the currency pair will continue on the current path.

If your broker does not supply you with these charts, then you should easily be able to draw them yourself with the modern day charting software or trading platform that you get from your broker. These software platforms can draw most charts for you by entering a couple of parameters and viewing the result.

It is recommended however that you learn at least the basics of charting and statistics before you start trading live.

18 Questions To Help You Define Your Day Trading Edge

Many people in corporations have spent countless days and countless dollars working to define their Unique Selling Propositions (USP's) so that the public gets a clear, concise, benefit-driven message. The USP is also the "edge" which make these businesses stand out among their peers.

In day trading, you need to define YOUR edge to help you become clear on what it is that makes you money on a CONSISTENT basis, both now and well into the future. If you think about it long enough, chances are that you will have at least one good edge which you can use to define your trading edge; and most likely it will be a personality trait that separates you from the rest.

You may not know your edge at this time, however, so spend a few hours with and ponder these areas when determining what sets you apart from all of the other traders in the marketplace:

Start with your personality traits and what makes you a better trader than someone else:
- Are you faster on the keyboard than most other people?
- Do you have a background in one of the riskier professions (pilot, firefighter, etc.) so that you are comfortable with risk?
- Do you have more tenacity than other people you know?
- Are you able to blend humility along with decisiveness better than most people you know?
- Can you accept losses emotionally and still perform with precision?
- Are you extremely analytical?
- Are you faster at mathematical calculations?
- Do you think in probabilities?
- Are you more disciplined?
- Do you have a deep understanding of trading psychology?

For the more "functional" ways to determine your edge, ask yourself:
- Do you have new ways to use a specific technical indicator?
- Do you have better technology (faster, more robust, etc.)?
- Do you have specific trading education which most people do not have?
- Do you have any background with previous traders such as having been on the trading floor or trading pits?
- Do you have programming language experience to help you write programs to trade the markets?
- Do you trade around and/or associate with consistently profitable traders?
- Do you have better money management techniques?
- Do you have better risk management systems in place?

The are just some topics to get you started thinking about your edge. Once you have defined your it, develop day trading strategies around your edge(s) so that you play to your strengths. While the market offers no guarantees of success, a trading style based on your strengths will increase your confidence when trading in the markets.

If you ever decide to raise money in the form of an investment advisory firm or hedge fund, you will want to have your edge(s) well-defined. Doing so will help you with marketing efforts and attracting the necessary capital to conduct your business.

The system must display real-time quotes and bids.

This way you will maximize your wins, minimize your losses, and increase your profit.

Trading Opening Range Breakouts

One of the most common and popular intraday trading concepts is the Opening Range Breakout (ORB) trade. Since its conception, ORB has evolved into a number of different varieties which are often reviewed in the Trading EveryDay Live Trading Room with entries, set ups, and stops.

Ever since the market decline of 2000-2003, the trading environment has become one of low volatility resulting in the propensity for short-term price movements to reverse. In turn, this environment has created chaos with Opening Range Breakout trading. Let’s take a look at what this means.

Say that a trader looking at the opening prices from the stock market open interprets a decline at mid-morning as an OBR. If the trader is astute and experienced, three (3) things would come to mind before taking the trade.

1. The trader should look at the entire pre-opening market as the opening range because it is an indication of how U.S. stocks have responded to pre-opening economic reports and Asia and European market developments. The only way you can tell if the new buying and selling information is impacting traders’ value assessments is if you break out of that range.
2. A true breakout move should impact all the major market averages and sectors (including, but not limited to, Dow Jones, Standard & Poor’s, Russell 2000, etc.) the same way.
3. A valid breakout should also provide us with increased participation as there are lower or higher prices. When this happens, you can be fairly certain that that the “big boys” are “playing” in the move, which allows you to follow in their footsteps.

So did the trader take the trade? Not if the downside move turns out to be a failed test of the overnight lows. The moral of the story is to do what you have to do to figure out how to separate valid ORB trades from false breakouts. That means to continue educating yourself because just as you evolve as a trader, the trading world is evolving as well.

How to Identify Trending in Forex Trading

Currencies tend to trend more and fluctuate less violently unlike stocks which behave pretty much the different way. The reason for this is not hard to understand. Currencies trend depending on the countries' foreign and economic policies which are macro economic in nature and the currency pairs take fairly long enough time to react to any change in policies. Where as stock movements are more or less determined by microeconomic factors and market sentiments.

Euro/US Dollar: On Par at the Beginning
When Euro was brought into force its exchange rate was set officially at 1 USD a Euro. At that time there existed hardly any difference between the economies of US and the European Union. US had a GDP of $11.0 billion and European Union was pretty up close there at $10.5 billion. While US economy was growing at a good rate of above 3% per annum Europe was a bit sluggish and recorded slightly over 1.5%.

Gradual Shift In Favor Of Euro
But this was not coming in the way of Euro's gradual march ahead of US Dollar. Look at other key economic factors for yourself. US had a deficit budget and the balance of trade was negatively skewed against US while the European Union had some of the seriously good parameters in exact contrast to that of the US's. The trade balance sheets looked healthy and strong standing on the near equal GDP.

During this period India, China, Russia and Brazil were making big strides in economic growth and Europe was gaining position in their trade partnerships shifting the forex currency in Euro's favor. At a time when their reserves were growing by leaps and bounds, US Dollar was sliding continuously which contributed to the conversion of their reserves into Euro, but partially.

How Does The Market React To This?
Euro/USD is by far the biggest forex pair which accounts for $1 trillion every trading day. With so many changes in the world economic scenario and the notional trades in between the two currencies still commanding 1/3rd of the currency market, the US dollar trended constantly over the years.

The firm trend may not be apparent in short term price charts but a relatively long period chart such as 2-3 years would clarify Euro's constant gain against USD. Till recently cross currency payments were, say for Japanese payments to Germany, first by converting Yen into USD and then USD into Euro. Now such a necessity doesn't arise for payments.

All these things mean that the trends are going to continue for long unless there is a strong reason.

Online Forex Trading Tutorial

There is an old adage connected to online forex and stock trading. It goes some what like this If you are inexperienced and have money and meet an experienced trader, but without money, you are likely to end up with experience and the experienced trader your money. There can be some semblance of truth in this but what this infers is trading without experience and strong fundamental knowledge of the market is an invitation to loss making.

Online Forex Trading Tutorial
There are several reputed online forex trading houses that cater to retail investors and traders. The same trading houses offer to train their prospective and existing clients on the nitty gritties of online forex trading most of the times free of cost.

What You Need To Learn About Online Forex Trading?
If you are a novice you need to start from the beginning. The macro economic factors that affect price volatility and the demand and supply of currencies that trigger the short term fluctuations which are your trading opportunities and most importantly the points of entry and exits form the basis of your learning.

Most of the online forex trading tutorials available require you to open a cost free demo/practice account so that you get exposure to either real time or simulated environment for better understanding.

Online Forex Trading Tutorial Curricula
You will see that, generally all the tutorials have more or less the same curricula. Basically speculations are made through a number of charts and indicators.
Chart Types:
1. Line chart
2. Bar chart
3. Candle stick chart

All these charts are price plots for selected periods. Then there are several indicators that help make decision. The important and most followed ones are

1. Average true range (ATR)
2. BOLLINGER BAND
3. Commodity Channel Index
4. Linear Regression
5. MACD
6. Momentum
7. Moving average
8. Parabolic time price
9. (ROC)Rate of Change
10. Relative Strength Index
11. Slow Stochastic
12. Standard Deviation
13. Stochastic

All charts and indicators are taught with sufficient demonstrations for self study. The tutorials deal with the patterns and formations made by charts/indicators and what they mean. While charts help you for short term speculative trading (technical analysis) they don't concentrate on the underlying reasons for price movements. This is the ground for fundamental analysis. The study of macroeconomic factors such as changes in government policies, wars etc that influence supply and demand, and as a consequence prices, constitute the fundamental analysis. These things are illustrated in contrast with demonstrative price movements.

Online forex trading tutorial helps gain a lot for everyone who takes it.

Day Trading Technical Indicators

Day trading technical indicators are the representation of mathematical formulae a day trader can use to decide when to do the trading. Forex day trading involves buying and selling of various currencies with the goal of making a profit from the difference between the buying price and the selling price within a day.

The day traders employ different strategies like short term scalping where positions are only held for a few seconds or minutes or longer term swing and position trading, when they hold the position for the whole trading day. For their trades they follow one or more day trading technical indicators or develop a strategy based on a combination of many such indicators.

A day trading technical indicator is a series of data points that can be derived by applying a formula to the price data. Price data includes any combination of the open, high, low, or close over a period of time.

Some technical indicators may use only the closing prices while others incorporate volume and open interest into their formulas. The price data is entered into the formula and a data point is produced, which in turn creates the indicator.

The list of day trading technical indicators is practically endless. There are Absolute Breadth Index, Bollinger Bands, Bull/Bear Ratio, Candlestick Charts, indicators based on Dow Theory or Elliot Wave Theory, Envelopes, Fibonacci Levels, MACD, Moving Averages, TRIX, Weighted Close, and many more. All these can be used as a day trading technical indicators with slight or no modifications.

For example, the absolute breadth index or ABI is a market momentum indicator which shows the activity, volatility, and change taking place in the market without paying attention to the direction of the prices. High readings implicate active markets. As a day trading technical indicator, it can predict future direction if combined with other indicators.

Bollinger Bands on the other hand are a kind of moving average envelope. It exist at standard deviation levels above and below the moving average and generally stay within the upper and lower bands. As a day trading technical indicators, it predicts the future market movements. Fibonacci numbers with 4 theories - arcs, fans, retracements, and time zones, which highlight reversals in trends.

Day trading technical indicators has three functions–to alert, to confirm and to predict. So a trader can never miss a trading opportunity or run into loss if he or she can use the indicators judiciously.

The best approach will be to develop a strategy based on more than one indicator. Learning how to use these indicators is more of an art than a science. Through careful study and analysis, a day trading technical indicator can be developed over time, but they can never be full proof.

Euro Key Level Economic News Release Trading Strategy

Forex traders know the importance of economic news releases and how that effects the exchange rate. A positive or negative news announcement in the US morning session can send the EUR/USD rate up or down extremely fast! One way to capture these large moves is to use ENTRY STOP ORDERS.

Entry stop orders are an excellent way to get into a trade long or short AUTOMATICALLY. Often if the market is moving extremely fast (due to an economic news release or geopolitical event) and you want to get into a trade, it
is extremely difficult to get the price you click (live market order) because the exchange rate is moving up or down so fast. It is like trying to jump on a train that is moving at full speed.

An entry stop buy or sell order places an order with the dealing desk of your Forex clearing house to execute your order when the exchange rate touches the level you set the order at. The CMS VT platform guarantees that these types of orders will be filled.

The following link outlines the economic news releases for the week. I find it very helpful because it rates every release in terms of importance on a grading scale of A-D. A denotes very important down to D with little significance to the markets. It even lists what the market expects to happen with the briefing.com forecast.

Click Here for the Yahoo Finance Economic Calendar:

http://biz.yahoo.com/c/e.html

1. Check the economic Calendar

2. Set your entry stop buy or sell at a key level 15-30 minutes before the announcement is released. Set your stop and limit on your order by right clicking the order when it appears on your VT platform.

3. You can also "straddle" the price movement by placing a long and short entry stop or sell order (and subsequent stops) if you aren't sure which direction the news release will send the price.

The above report was taken from the Euro Fractal Trading system, written by Erol Bortucene of the Day Trade Forex Team.

This unique approach to day trading the EUR/USD involves using financial Fractals and no other technical indicators, as outlined in the Euro Fractal Trading System. The Euro Fractal Trading System also teaches how to use key price levels to take entry and exit positions, thus taking the guesswork out of trading.

Trading In Black And White Forex Trading

We'll begin tonight be recapping yesterday's trading. Unfortunately, we don't have much good to say about our trading, but we will use it as an opportunity to "teach" a bit.

We were stopped out of our trades last night, since we were looking for a short. Now, you have heard us talk about the ability to trade without emotion and yesterday we had to use this skill to its fullest.

While in the early stages of your trading career, you might have tried to short Cable at several different points on the chart yesterday. However, this is the classic mistake that beginning traders make.

Undoubtedly, you have seen how much money this can cost you in your trading.

Let us tell you our way of dealing with a day like yesterday. We say, "You Win, Trading gods."

If, the first trade we make gets stopped out, we don't make any other trades for that day. This keeps us from letting a bad day get worse. Admittedly, you will have times when you could have entered into another trade and recovered your losses, but this happens far less than you think.

There is much more detail about this type of money management that needs to be learned, and it would take me months worth of newsletters to cover all of them. But, in it's simplest form...if your first trade is a big loser (meaning you lost all that you were willing to risk) than stop trading for the day.

Your trading accuracy, like the market itself, has trends. As you have seen for this month, we go on streaks of 90% accuracy and above. In those times our account can double or triple, based on our money management system.

On the other hand, we keep our draw downs limited by minimizing the "streak" of bad trades.

In fact, if our first two trades of a given week go against us, fully, than we stop trading for the week.

You see, our trading style works in particular trading activity. If the market is giving us that kind of activity, we dominate. If, however, it is not than our method of trading allow us to tread water without drowning.

Do you see how important it is to be disciplined when trading the Forex? Even more so, do you see how important it is to be educated?

Alright, so let's move on to our outlook for tonight.

Due to our emotionless attitude, we have been able to avoid falling in love with the idea of a short trade. Cable has climbed to a level where it is very difficult to pick an entry level for a short trade.

This is not to say that the market won't head down, it just means that we don't have enough reasons to enter a short trade.

Reasons must include: an entry point, a stop price, and a profit target. These reasons must be formed and supported with several indicators. Every trader will use indicators that "make sense" to them.

You must be confident when placing your trades, therefore you must believe completely in your trading levels. Some traders trust simple moving averages, while others trust exponential moving averages. It's a matter of what "makes the most sense" to you.

So, we now look to see if there is a good long opportunity.

Eureka, several potential support levels appear.

1.8780, 1.8750, 1.8700 - Truth be told, if 1.8700 is broken, it looks like we might be heading to 1.8570.

Although we don't like telling you what to trade, or when to trade it, we would like to offer this OPINION. We are going to place our stop price above 1.8700.

How can you use this info?

It's not always necessary to find your entry price first...sometimes it is more efficient to find a great stop price, and then find your entry price.

So, if you were using 1.8705 as your stop and you were willing to risk 40 pips on a trade, your entry would be 1.8745 or lower. Do you understand?

One last thing about a long trade tonight. Since there is such little resistance above 1.8900, you could have an opportunity to grab a quick 30-80 pips if you can go long above there.

Ok, we think that's about enough for one night.

Oh, there is one more thing. We are tremendous fans of contests, raffles, and other things of the sort. So, we have decided to start the "Trading In Black And White Forex Trading Contest".

We will be sending you information about this contest in the next few days. Just know this, the prizes will be considerable...especially since it's free to enter, and it will be based on trading performance.

So get ready to join us in our first ever contest of its kind.

We find these support and resistance levels using a set of technical indicators and other variables that we have found to be most successful for us. We use several other indicators and a variety of technical analysis techniques to enter and exit all of our trades. Every trader will have a different combination of indicators that makes the most sense to them. Learn how to develop your own successful Forex Trading style with this Elite Forex Trading Course.

Fx Trading Strategy - a Proven Strategy to Catch Every Big Move and Target Triple Digit Profits

If you want to start trading forex then if you make this method the basis of your FX Trading strategy, you will catch all the big moves and all the big profits. Let's take a look at it and how it could lead you to triple digit gains...

This FX strategy is simply based upon breakouts, which is a timeless strategy for profit which works, will continue to work and is easy to understand.

What is a Breakout?

A breakout is simply a break to new high or low on a forex chart

Why is it so effective?

Almost every big move starts from a new market high or market low or a breakout on the chart. Check any forex chart and you will see this occur again and again.

Why Doesn't Everyone Trade Breakouts Then?

Most traders are looking to buy low or sell high and trying to get perfect market timing, by waiting to buy at bottom or sell at the top and wait for a pullback when a breakout occurs. They miss the moves as once a strong breakout occurs, it tends to continue. The trader who waits is left watching the price disappear over the horizon making thousands of dollars and he's not in.

Buying breakouts is not predicting, it's simply trading the reality of a price change on the chart.

Most traders find this hard, they want always to get in at a low and sell at a high which is not possible and therefore miss these moves. If they would have gone with them they would have made money.

What are the Best Breakouts?

Not all breakouts of course continue and many fail, so you really need to concentrate on the high odds ones which are valid. Generally the valid breakouts are ones which have tested the breakout point at least 3 times, in at least 2 different time frames and the wider they are apart, in terms of time the better.

It's basically the more tests, more times frames and the wider they spaced apart the better and more valid the breakout is.

You need to look for areas the market considers important and if a break occurs and most traders disagree with it, it's likely to be a good one!

The best breakouts only occur a few times in each currency per year - but these are the high odds trades and I know traders who make triple digit gains on them and you can to.

Anything Else?

Yes you should always confirm the breakout with momentum indicators. We don't have time to discuss them here (simply look up our other articles) but these are indicators that gauge the strength of price and you want them supporting any price break.

Use the stochastic and RSI as a good two to look at first. These are visual indicators, easy to use and on every major forex chart service.

What about Stops?

Simple right under the breakout point.

The key to making money though is how you trail your stop.

If it's a big break don't trail to soon wait until the trend is underway and trail outside of daily volatility.

Breakout trading may be simple but it works and most people don't like doing it, don't let that put you off the majority don't win and it works!

All the best currency trading systems are simple and it's a fact simple systems work best, as they are more robust in the face of brutal market movements. If you base your FX Strategy on trading breakouts, you can soon be enjoying currency trading success and targeting triple digit annual gains.

Currency Trading System - a Free Profitable Trading System is Enclosed

The currency trading system enclosed, works, will continue to work and you can get started with it and use it to seek forex trading success. All you need to know about it is enclosed.

Don't confuse this currency trading system with the junk robots you see online for sale which come with made up track records simulated in hindsight, this one has been used by savvy traders for over 20 years and works.

The system was originally devised to trade commodity markets but works on any trending market and of course forex markets offer excellent trends.

The System is known as the 4 Week Rule and was devised by Richard Donchian one of the most influential traders of all time and here is the system and its very simple but don't be put off all the best trading systems are - here you go:

Buy a new 4 week calendar high and reverse to a short position on a break to any 4 week colander low maintaining a position in the market at all times.

That it and while it sounds simple it is based on sound logic and this system if you test it makes money here's why:

- It trades breakouts and it's a fact that most trends start from new lows or highs

- It trades infrequently and is after the longer term trends

The advantage of the system is

- It will put you on the right side of EVERY big trend

- It is totally objective all you do is follow the rule

- It takes very little time to use this system

The only disadvantage of the system is when markets don't trend and of course it can generate signals that cause losses so you may wish to add a filter:

Exit any position on a one or two week low and then wait for the next 4 week signal to re enter. You can also use short term moving averages to exit the trade as well.

This system may not be complicated but it is effective at making money longer term. You need discipline to follow it as its not fussy about exact market timing but it puts dollars in the pocket longer term and will beat 95% of sold systems online.

If you think that a simple system couldn't make money test the 4 Week Rule and you may be very surprised!

Short-Term Trading - Forex v Shares

The financial markets are extremely volatile at the moment, and as a result many traders are focusing on short-term trading as opposed to longer term investing. However is forex trading or share trading more profitable when trading on an intraday basis?

I personally trade both the major currency pairs and individual UK shares and in my experience if you're short-term trading then forex trading is generally the more profitable. There are several reasons for this. One of which is that the movements of the major currencies are generally more predictable because they conform extremely well to technical analysis.

The advantage you have when trading forex is that all the major economic announcements are scheduled and therefore known in advance. This is important because these economic data releases can have a major impact on currency prices and can potentially distort any technical analysis you do. So because you know when these announcements are due you can ensure that you don't have any positions open when the announcements are made, and can therefore focus entirely on technical analysis without any external influences ruining your analysis.

When you trade shares, however, there is always the possibility that an unexpected news announcement will be made relating to the company you are trading. Most announcements such as trading updates and final results are known in advance but there are always announcements that can come completely out of the blue such as news about a new contract win, a takeover approach, or a profits warning, for example. These can cause the share price to rise or fall dramatically in a matter of seconds or minutes and can render technical analysis completely useless.

So it's hard to be completely confident about trading shares when there is the possibility that market-moving news could come out at any time. Furthermore another problem you have with individual shares is that they do not always conform that well to technical analysis. Sometimes it's the case that despite what the charts are telling you about a share, the share price will follow the wider market anyway.

Finally if you're trading on an intraday basis, you will find that when trading shares there may be days when the share you are trading simply doesn't move enough in order to make any worthwhile profits from trading. This is never the case with forex trading because if you just stick to the major pairs, you are pretty much guaranteed volatility, with plenty of points movement every single day.

So overall I personally think that forex trading is so much more profitable than share trading when trading on a short-term basis.

Develop A Forex Trading Strategy To Become A Master Trader

If you are interested in becoming an amazing trader in the forex market, you definitely need a powerful forex trading strategy to guide you in your trades. Those individuals who are expert forex traders have learned this early and are now the elite that make a lot of money. There are four simple steps that you can take to develop your forex trading strategy. Follow them and immediately see success in the forex market.

First, you must realize that your success falls only on you. You need to accept responsibility for your own success and each trade. Only you can make yourself successful! This means that you have to take the necessary steps to develop your own trading strategy. The good news for you is that everything you need to know about forex can be found online for free, or very cheap.

Second, you need to focus on learn how to find the right information and increase your knowledge the right way. To be successful in the forex market, you need to learn the right things. This is important because many traders think that knowing more is better. This is simply not true!

You see, in the forex market, you get rewarded heavily for your results and the accuracy for your trades, not the effort you make in your trades. You should also make sure that the forex trading system that you chose to use integrate into your trading strategy is simple and easy to use. Simple systems are much easier to use for a long period of time and work much better than the complicated ones. This will give you confidence and an advantage over those who choose to use complicated systems.

Third, you need to decide right now if you feel comfortable taking a risk and if you have good money management skills. If you don't like taking risks, you probably shouldn't trade forex. Most traders don't realize how big the actual risk is so they enter the market and lose a lot of money and get out quick. Then there are those who are so frightened by risk, that they end up being too conservative in their trades and lose a lot of money. If you want to make a ton of money in the forex money, you need to take risks that are calculated, I mean risk at the right times.

Last, you need to be realistic in your expectations. Sure, some people get into the forex market and get rich super fast. However, this isn't the norm for most traders. If you take your time easing into the market and immediately begin developing a forex trading strategy that is strong and sustainable, you will find success.

5 Reasons for Entering the Exciting World of Currency Trading

Currency trading offers a host of benefits for the small investor today and here we look at just five reasons for taking advantage of the lucrative world of Forex trading.

1. The 24 Hour Nature Of Trading.

The majority of the world’s trading markets operate out of fixed trading centers and to strictly limited hours, normally between Monday and Friday. However, because currency trading takes place around the world you have the ability to trade 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

This means that, since most private traders operate from their own homes, you can decide just when you want to trade, whether it is in the morning, afternoon, evening or even in the middle of the night. It also means that, whatever happens in the world, you have the ability to take advantage of events and their effect of particular currencies instantly and are not frustrated by having to wait for the market to open.

2. Very Low Trading Costs.

With many traditional markets, including the equity markets, trading costs can be high and brokerage fees in particular can quickly mount with commissions on even quite small trades being $20 or $30 and commission on larger traded running into hundreds of dollars. Trading costs are however very much lower in currency trading and the electronic nature of the market means that even the traditional bid/offer spread is much lower on currency trades than of other market trades.

3. High Leverage.

The Forex market is not the only market which allows you to trade on leverage but leverage in currency trading is typically far higher than that seen elsewhere. For example, professional equity traders will generally be permitted to leverage ten times their capital whereas even private currency traders are typically permitted to leverage one hundred times their capital. Of course you do have to be careful and one downside to the availability of high leverage trading is that it can lead not only to high profits, but also to high losses. Fortunately however the market tends to regulate risk management fairly tightly.

4. Limited Slippage.

Unlike many markets, currency trading offers the immediate execution of trading orders at real-time prices and, in almost all cases, this means that the price you see is the price you pay. For people who have experienced trading in other markets there is nothing more frustrating than executing a trade only to find that by the time the trade is settled prices have moved and you end up with less money than you expected.

5. The Ability To Profit From Rising And Falling Markets.

Equity traders know only too well the cycle of Bull and Bear markets which has a dramatic effect not only on profits, but also on the ability to actually trade. Fortunately, the structure of the currency trading market means Forex traders do not suffer from such problems. Because currency trading always involves a pair of currencies, if you are short on one currency then you are long on the other and so the possibility of profiting is always there regardless of whether the market is falling or rising.

Forex Money Management - Deal With Volatility or Lose Your Equity

Many traders have forex trading systems that can pick the direction of the currency correctly but they continually get stopped out by volatility and cannot stay with the trend. Here are some money management tips to help you stay with the trend and enjoy currency trading success...

A typical scenario which occurs for most traders is they enter a trend with their currency trading signal the price retraces, takes out their stop and then the trend immediately goes back the way they thought, piling up thousands of dollars and their not in!

If this has happened to you, you're not alone. Most traders have this problem and volatility is the cause.

Of course prices don't trend in a straight line otherwise currency trading would be easy - they constantly retrace against major trends. Quite simply, you need to employ money management rules to keep you in the major trend and not get stopped out so here are some tips.

1. Don't Trade the Market Noise

If you want to avoid getting caught by random volatility avoid short term trading strategies such as forex scalping or day trading. All volatility in a day is random. So if you place stops using daily support and resistance you are wasting your time.

Forget day trading and look at long term trend following.

2. Be Selective

You don't get paid for how often you trade you get paid for being right with your trading signal and getting your market timing right. The big high odds trades don't come around every day and you need to be patient to wait for them. I know traders who trade less than a dozen times a year, who make triple digit gains and you, can to.

You will also find many of the best trading moves come from breakouts and you need to look for these.

3. Use Breakouts.

Most major trends start from breaks of highs and lows and pick valid ones (check our other articles for more information on breakouts) When a break occurs your stop is obvious below the breakout point. If the breakout continues do not trail your stop to close! This is the major error of most traders in any form of trend and we will discuss this next.

4. Moving Stops

Most traders fail to win because they trail stops too soon. They want to restrict risk so much they create it by bringing their stop within normal volatility and getting bumped out the trade.

Make sure you leave your stop until the trend is well underway and trail outside of random volatility.

A good way of doing this is using the 40 day Moving average as a stop. Sure you miss a bit of the trend when it turns - but you can't predict that anyway, so there is no point in trying. If you caught 50% of every major trend you would be very rich.

5. Deciding Risk per Trade

Today you can get leverage of 200:1 or more but for a small trader to use all of this is madness.

Sure your gain will be huge - but your stop has to be so close, you are guaranteed to get stopped out. De-leverage and use 10 or 20:1 and risk more per trade.

In forex trading you have to take a risk and you need to be outside of daily volatility with your stop, or you're going to lose. Risking more to your stop means your chances of winning are higher, if you hit high odds trades and that's what you need to do.

Volatility can destroy your account quickly, if your forex money management doesn't handle it.

The above tips will work. In the next series of these articles we will look at how to measure volatility and look at standard deviation of price, which is essential forex education for any trader and a great tool to help time trading signals - the Bollinger Band.

Many traders think forex money management takes care of itself, it doesn't and you need to get protection for your trades and deal with volatility to win.
